Round 5

GRATTAN, Mich.—Never a team to give up in the face of adversity, TVR/EBC
Brakes Yamaha came away from Saturday’s WERA National Endurance Series race
at Grattan Raceway with the Heavyweight Superstock class win, skillfully
overcoming the challenges of the weekend.

When team owner Chuck Ivey crashed earlier this month during a Sportsman
Series event, the team was dealt a double blow: not only were they now out
one rider, but their primary Yamaha YZF-R1 was out of contention, too.
Despite nursing a broken foot, ankle and leg, Ivey prepared the backup R1,
and the team headed to Grattan.

James Vanderhaar rode the TVR/EBC Brakes Yamaha R1 with Reuben Frankenfield,
who is filling in for Ivey. With a skeleton crew in the pits and just two
riders for the six-hour event, the team was still able to secure the
Heavyweight Superstock win and fifth overall.

“The whole team worked together on pit stops, and Reuben and I put in really
consistent laps,” said Vanderhaar, who along with Frankenfield had to pitch
in on front tire changes. “I just got back from the Isle of Man, and after
racing there, Grattan felt as smooth as glass!”

Frankenfield has most recently ridden the team’s R6 in Mediumweight
Superstock, but he’s no stranger to riding a TVR R1. “The bike is familiar
to me, so I was able to just hop on and get back to it,” said Frakenfield.
“The front Michelin tires were really working well for us, even when they
were worn. I really enjoyed riding the R1 on Michelins.”

TVR’s second entry, the TVR136 Yamaha YZF-R6, took second in the
Mediumweight Superstock class, finishing seventh overall. Ohio racer Jeff
Wrobel joined TVR136 regulars Ethan Ellis and James Dellinger. Although new
to TVR, Wrobel brought a lot of experience at Grattan to the team.

“Everything went well for us,” noted Wrobel. “We practiced a lot for our pit
stops, and everything went as planned in the race. James and Ethan turned
great times, and having all the right equipment really made a difference.
Whatever we needed as riders was there for us; Chuck just makes it all
happen.”

Round 4

TOOELE, Utah—The long drive from Augusta, Georgia, to Miller Motorsports
Park in Utah was well worth it for TVR/EBC Brakes Yamaha owner Chuck Ivey,
who led his team to a dual victory in Saturday’s WERA National Endurance
Series race.

Ivey, Zac Chapman, Brett Champagne and James Vanderhaar rode the TVR/EBC
Brakes Yamaha YZF-R1 to the Heavyweight Superstock class win while notching
a finish of second overall. Meanwhile, TVR136 sailed to victory in the
Mediumweight Superstock class, with Reuben Frankenfield, Ethan Ellis and
James Dellinger finishing fourth overall on a Yamaha YZF-R6.

The six-hour race went smoothly, both in the pits and on track. Michael Dunn
was the only permanent crew member in attendance, and he deftly handled all
of the prep work for pit stops. “It was pretty busy between mixing fuel,
getting tires mounted and setting tire pressures for two bikes,” said Dunn.
“The guys at Michelin really helped out, and Ethan’s dad worked the pit
board. He did a great job keeping up with both bikes.”

The riders, meanwhile, each had a job to perform during stops. “It was a lot
of hard work, but everybody had a job to do and they came together to get
things done flawlessly,” commented Ivey.

The Michelin tires did their job flawlessly, too. “The Michelins were great,
especially the front tires,” said Ivey. “We only had to change the front
tire once on each bike, so we saved a lot of time in the pits. That’s a huge
advantage for us as a Superstock team.”

“We tried a different strategy to make the tires outlast the tires used by
the Heavyweight Superbike teams,” said Chapman. “I had to really watch my
pace, especially when I saw Superbike teams pulling away from me, but it
worked out perfectly because we saved time in the pits and came away with
second.”

Champagne echoed the sentiment about the advantageous pit stops, saying,
“The pit stops were excellent, the bike handled great, and the tires were
superior. The communication in the pits was perfect and we had no hiccups.”

Vanderhaar said, “Zac started the race and he really did the work of giving
us a huge lead in our class, and I just had to maintain that. I went out
again with 40 minutes to go, and the oil light went on. I slowed down
because I realized it was better not to blow the bike up and just finish the
race!” Less than 48 hours later, Vanderhaar was on his way to the Isle of
Man, where he is competing for the first time.

Fans who met the TVR riders during a promotion at a local Applebee’s the
night before the race came to Miller to see the team Yamahas in action. They
weren’t disappointed, thanks to the combination of skilled riders, quick pit
stops and the handling abilities of the bikes.

TVR/EBC Brakes Yamaha now has a seven-week “summer break,” during which time
they will be making numerous promotional appearances and prepping the
Yamahas for the next round at Grattan Raceway.

Round 3
JENNINGS, Fla.—TVR/EBC Brakes Yamaha increased their winning streak last
weekend, taking their third consecutive Heavyweight Superstock victory
during Saturday’s six-hour WERA National Endurance Series race at Jennings
GP.

Chuck Ivey, Brett Champagne, Zac Chapman and James Vanderhaar rode the
TVR/EBC Brakes Yamaha YZF-R1. Although they were racing for the win, as
always, the weekend was also a test for the team’s new 2009 model R1. There
were a few setup struggles, but overall everyone was impressed with the
bike.

“It’s a totally different machine than the ’08,” commented Chapman. “The
power delivery is different, but really fast and smooth; it almost felt like
riding a V-twin, which is what I’m used to riding.”

“The new bike is awesome. We just need to get it dialed in, and now we know
what direction to go for the next race. I’m looking forward to having the R1
out there on the other tracks we race,” said Champagne.

TVR has a test day scheduled prior to the next WERA Endurance round, and
they will work with Jamie James to get the suspension and setup perfected on
the ’09 R1. “The overall results from Jennings don’t show how well the guys
rode,” said Ivey, referring to their finish of seventh overall. “We’ve just
got some things to work on. Our crew kept their focus to keep us on track,
and everybody’s happy with how the new R1 works and feels.”

TVR II, the team’s Mediumweight Superstock entry, featured Vanderhaar,
Reuben Frankenfield and 16-year-old talent Ethan Ellis on a Yamaha YZF-R6.
Despite a crash, the team was poised for the Mediumweight Superstock win
before an extra pit stop relegated them to second. They crossed the line
just 30 seconds behind first place after a six-hour battle, and this marks
the second time TVR II has earned a class podium this season.

For Vanderhaar, riding both the R1 and R6 during the race was a challenge.
“I only got three laps of practice on the R6, but it was easy to ride
because it’s so much smaller than the R1,” he said. “But then I got on the
R1 and it has so much power! Riding it is much more physical because you’re
on the edge the whole time.”

Round 2
Character Defines TVR/EBC Brakes Yamaha en route to Talladega Class Win
MUNFORD, Al.-Patience and perseverance were the keys to Team Velocity
Racing's Heavyweight Superstock win during Saturday's four-hour WERA
National Endurance Series race at Talladega Gran Prix Raceway. Even a double
shot of trouble couldn't keep the team from rallying to a class win.

A countershaft nut on the front sprocket of the TVR/EBC Brakes Yamaha YZF-R1
came off twice: once near the end of the first hour, and again with only 10
minutes remaining in the race. The mishap was later traced to a faulty
impact gun. Zac Chapman, Brett Champagne and James Vanderhaar had the task
of making up for the time lost in the pits.

At the start of the race, Chapman led the field for about 40 minutes before
he came to a halt on track. He got help bringing the bike back to pit lane,
where the crew assessed the problem and replaced the countershaft nut.
Champagne took the TVR Yamaha out next, facing a five-lap deficit with a lot
of time to make up.

The team did, indeed, make up time, advancing from 12th to fourth during the
next three hours. Champagne was catching up to third place when the
countershaft nut came off again, and he, too, was stranded on track. The
bike was pushed back to the pits, and Chapman rejoined the race to take the
checkered flag.

TVR's perseverance awarded them the Heavyweight Superstock victory. They
finished sixth overall despite the double trouble, thanks in large part to
the double advantage of their EBC brake pads and Michelin DOT tires. This
race marked the first time TVR has competed in a full four-hour event
without needing a front-tire change for their R1. In their maiden season on
Michelins, TVR is already seeing an advantage: even after four hours on the
same front tire, they were still closing in on the competition at the end.

"We did really well in the first hour; I passed for the lead when we started
getting into lapped traffic," said Chapman. "After we broke, we were making
up time and catching third place overall. If things had gone our way, I
think we would have been on the podium."

"I came out on track about four seconds back from the race leader, and I
tried to pace him. I knew if I could do that, we'd make up time. It was just
a matter of putting our heads down and trying to make up for all that time
we lost," said Vanderhaar.

"It was a pretty clean race, and we didn't do anything stupid, we just had a
couple of nuts fall off!" said the always-optimistic Champagne. "I'm stoked
about the next round at Jennings. I love that track, plus we'll be on the
new bike."

The team's Mediumweight Superstock entry, TVR II, featured Reuben
Frankenfield, James Dellinger and Mike Wheelis at the controls of a Yamaha
YZF-R6. Despite an early slip in the puddles left by the week's rain, TVR II
made their first podium appearance of the season, finishing second in class
and seventh overall.

Round 1
TVR/EBC Brakes Yamaha on Endurance Podium in First Race on Michelin Tires

POOLER, Ga.-Team Velocity Racing (TVR) began the WERA National Endurance
Series season last weekend in style, earning the Heavyweight Superstock
class win and finishing second overall in the four-hour race at Roebling
Road Raceway. The race also marked TVR's debut as a Michelin-sponsored team.

Chuck Ivey, Zac Chapman and Brett Champagne piloted the TVR/EBC Brakes
Yamaha YZF-R1. Before the team ever arrived at the track, though, there was
a lot happening behind the scenes.

EBC Brakes, a longtime sponsor and supporter of TVR, decided to increase
their involvement with the four-time champions in 2009. "EBC brakes has been
instrumental in helping us finalize our plans for this year," noted rider
and team owner Chuck Ivey. He added that TVR's 2009 R1s are currently being
tested, and will debut at round two.

In addition, TVR's switch to Michelin rubber marks the first time the team
has changed tire brands since they entered the series six years ago. "We're
always trying to move forward, and Michelin has a positive plan for the
future, and a great tire," said Ivey. "They're focusing a lot of energy on
this series, and we're excited about partnering with them. It felt great to
put Michelin on the box in our first race, but we won't be satisfied until
we're first."

As for the race itself, everyone agreed that it was the perfect way to start
the season, with thorough preparation, quick pit stops, and riders who were
in tune with the TVR Yamaha R1.

"I got the holeshot at the start, then it was a drag race to turn one and I
led for a few laps," commented Chapman. "I took the lead again and got a
good gap before I had to come in for fuel. The bike and tires worked well.
The Michelins are great: the rear held up for the whole stint, and the tires
were very predictable."

Champagne is making his TVR debut this year, but in the past he has been one
of their fiercest competitors. "I've known these guys for a while, and being
a part of the team was everything I expected. Everyone gets along, works
well together, and we had fun," he said. "I feel I could have ridden better,
but I hadn't thrown a leg over a bike since October. Hopefully I can give it
some more next weekend."

Things Heat up for Team Velocity Racing at Season Finale

IMG_5960.JPG

BRASELTON, Ga. - Team Velocity Racing wrapped up the 2008 WERA National
Endurance Series season on Friday during a four-hour race at Road Atlanta,
walking away with another Heavyweight Superstock championship and memories
of a dramatic finale.

Nearly two days of rain cleared up in time for Friday's race, but Team
Velocity Racing (TVR) got very little practice thanks to the soggy
conditions. One practice the morning of the race was all the team had to
make some basic adjustments to the setups of the Yamaha R1 and R6, and to
get the riders used to the changes in Road Atlanta's turn 12 configuration.
After that, there was just enough time to mount new EBC brake pads, top off
the gas tanks with VP Fuel, and ensure that the Repsol oil and EK Chains
were all ready for the long finale.

TVR had an impressive list of riders, all equipped with Arai helmets,
including team owner Chuck Ivey, Zac Chapman, James Vanderhaar and Reuben
Frankenfield on the TVR 131 Yamaha YZF-R1 in the Heavyweight Superstock
class. The TVR 136 Yamaha YZF-R6 in Mediumweight Superstock included young
talents Mike Wheelis, James Dellinger and Chad Lewin.

TVR 131 clinched the Heavyweight Superstock championship earlier this
season, marking their fourth consecutive title in the class. There was
little pressure on the team coming into Road Atlanta, but they still wanted
to earn top results.

Chapman and Ivey kept the team in second overall during the opening of the
race, but a difficult pit stop and an additional stop to replace an axle pin
lost valuable time. Chapman, Ivey, Vanderhaar and Frankenfield fought to
make up for the lost time during the remaining hours. Ivey even chose to
double-stint the Pirelli tires to save time in the pits. It was a worthwhile
gamble since the tires were holding up impressively and proved to be a great
pairing with the YZF-R1. At the checkered flag, TVR 131 was first in
Heavyweight Superstock, adding another victory to their successful season,
and fifth overall.

The TVR 136 team had a dramatic pit stop early in the race, when gas lodged
in the breather hose of their refueler spilled onto the bike and ignited.
Frankenfield and Melissa Berkoff, from competing team Brand X, were able to
get the blaze out quickly and the team eventually took the scorched R6 back
onto the track. The setback lost the team's second-place class standing in
the race, but Wheelis, Dellinger and Lewin still sewed up third place in the
Mediumweight Superstock championship.

"Our season got off to a difficult start when our teammate Rory died in a
sprint race at Roebling, and going into the year I knew that having two
teams would be complicated," reflected Ivey. "But overall, getting the
Heavyweight Superstock championship was our goal, and we were able to
accomplish that. I'm also proud about TVR 136 wrapping up third in points. A
lot of our riders on that bike are young, and several of them had no prior
endurance experience, and they accomplished a lot this year."

Ivey credits efficient teamwork for the successful race season, but he adds
that teamwork involves more than just the riders and pit crew. "Even with
hard economic times, our sponsors have all stood by us. Without their
support, we could never come out here and win championships. We're very
grateful for their unwavering support," said Ivey. TVR's sponsors include
XES Leather, Arai, Pirelli, EBC Brakes, Vortex, Repsol, EK Chains, VP Fuels,
and Dyno Jet. Find out more about the team online at
